An outdoor haunted attraction using existing themed elements as the basis for a cursed plague narrative. A series of small, movable facade elements combined with smaller elements converting a central fountain to a pyre allows for a dark, brooding environment guests must traverse to cross into a key portion of the park.
Designed for Canada’s Wonderlands Halloween Haunt 2016, The Plague takes a lighter approach to environmental design than other outdoor attraction areas. Larger set-pieces are made of smaller, movable components and thus can be re-positioned and changed as needed. The permanent fountain in front of the castle-themed theatre building (already drained and dry for winter season) makes a perfect base for a plague pyre. With strong themeing existing throughout the area, little is needed to transform Medieval Faire from a pleasant castle courtyard to a dark and dangerous plague environment.
